Speaking
Why, What, Where, and How I Speak
Why I Speak
I love telling stories, true ones, which change lives for the better.
How I Speak
My speaking is in story form, known as narrative, with a strong scriptural base.
What I Speak About
Here are the words used by a women’s retreat organizer. Her description makes me very happy. This is what I speak about:
“You have a cross-centered ministry of hope, encouragement, and comfort.
Woven into that are the stories that make up your life - the lessons you
learned from others. You simply comfort others with the comfort God has
given you (2 Cor. 1). Along the way, you teach through those stories about
prayer and intimacy with God. As people hear you speak, they are
encouraged, comforted, and filled with hope — not hope in the worldly
sense of hoping things get better, but true biblical hope, hope that does
not disappoint, hope based in the unchanging character of God rather than
the fickleness of circumstances. People are challenged by the centrality of
the cross.
Certainly Corrie ten Boom and Brother Andrew forever affected your
ministry. Yet your message does not require their stories. The message of
being hidden behind the cross, for example, is powerful whether the words
came from Corrie ten Boom or an unknown saint. Yet God has given you
divinely appointed relationships which act as springboards. People may come
only to hear of Corrie ten Boom or Brother Andrew, but they leave with
Jesus — and that is what matters. Rosa
